The King's Proposed Visit to Australia

The King's Proposed Visit to Australia

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said plans were already underway on possible logistics for a visit by King Charles III and Queen Camila and his office has confirmed it is speaking with States and Territories about the visit planned for October this year. Their Majesties will be visiting on their way to CHOGM in Samoa.

The position of the Australian Monarchist League is that we are very hopeful that His Majesty’s cancer treatment will be successful and that he will be well enough to visit Australia, a country in which he was partially educated and has always had a great fondness for.

We earnestly trust that the premiers will respond positively to the Prime Minister’s call and put forward a constructive case for Their Majesties to visit their State.

In no way would not want a repeat of what happened in New South Wales to honour the King’s Coronation where the premier, Chris Minns, purposefully cancelled plans to light the Opera House and other buildings.  Freedom of Information has since shown that the decision was not one based on cost but was personal and political.  This morning Mr Minns has said that “Sydney was an obvious choice for the King to stop at”.  He should have thought of that before he purposefully insulted the King on his Coronation Day.

In fact, the matter of a republic should have nothing to do with the royal visit, which is the visit of the King as our sovereign.  As the Assistant Minister for the Republic, Matt Thistlethwaite inferred this morning, “a republic has nothing to do with the royal family.”

Above all, we wish both His Majesty and the Princess of Wales speedy recoveries.
