Republic Minister v Cost of Living

Republic Minister v Cost of Living

AUSTRALIANS BATTLING COST OF LIVING CRISIS
DON’T WANT WASTE WITH MINISTER FOR REPUBLIC

Over 3500 Australians have signed a letter to the Prime Minister calling for the abolition of the unnecessary and wasteful position of an Assistant Minister for the Republic, especially in the midst of a cost of living crisis.

The letter co-ordinated by the Australian Monarchist League calls on the Prime Minister to instead consider a cost of living minister to deal with the crisis facing many Australians.

‘After the debacle that was The Voice referendum , so overwhelmingly rejected by Australians and costing them hundreds of millions of wasted dollars, the government has acknowledged that a republic is now off its agenda at least for the short term.

In those circumstances retaining this ministry to just propagandise a particular political party’s policy is both offensive and expensive while highlighting the government’s unwillingness to genuinely deal with the cost of living issues,’ said Australian Monarchist League NO Republic Campaign Chair Eric Abetz.

‘It is unbelievable that the federal government can be so tone deaf as to ignore the Australian people by persisting with this superfluous and wasteful ministry. Ultimately it is the Prime Minister who determines the ministries and appointments so Mr Albanese needs to take full responsibility for this waste.

The Ministry should never have been created in the first place. To continue with it only adds insult to injury. While the Australian Monarchist League relies on volunteers and volunteer donations the federal government continues to justify the unjustifiable with a fully-fledged and taxpayer-funded office with access to taxpayer-funded flights, transport, and accommodation as well. This is an abuse and clear waste, while being unfair, ‘ Mr Abetz said.

‘The three thousand five hundred Australians who signed the letter spoke on behalf of their fellow Australians demanding the abolition of the ministry. Mr Albanese needs to listen and act,’ Mr Abetz concluded.
