PM URGED TO ABOLISH ASSISTANT MINISTER FOR THE REPUBLIC
The Australian Monarchist League is urging the Prime Minister to abolish the taxpayer-funded position of Assistant Minister for the Republic as he prepares to welcome King Charles III later this year.
The incongruity of the Prime Minister basking in the reflected glory and publicity of welcoming King Charles to Australia while funding a minister committed to the abolition of Australia’s constitutional monarchy is obvious to all.
The Assistant Minister who personally gets over $260,000.00 per annum plus travel , plus staff , plus accommodation is an abuse of taxpayers’ money. There is no doubt the propaganda machine for the republicans is fed well over half a million dollars each and every year by the taxpayer at a time when cost of living pressures are substantial.
Further, Australia’s constitutional monarchy has served the Australian people exceptionally well for over 100 years. Our constitutional monarchy was voted for by Australians in Australia as our form of government in a series of votes between 1898 and 1900. One hundred years later in 1999 the Australian people rightly and overwhelmingly repudiated an attempt to change their constitution by those seeking to abolish not only our heritage but our stable democracy which is envied around the world.
While Australians harbour doubts about their elected representatives from time to time they are resolute in their support of their constitution which has served them so well. Australians are rightly suspicious about politicians who want to change their constitution because it is always about giving politicians greater power.
The Prime Minister should never have appointed such a minister. To continue on with it at this time is not only embarrassing but an indicator of where his priorities lie.
The abolition of the position of Assistant Minister for the Republic would do us all a favour including the government.
