NEW POLL FINDS MAJORITY OF AUSTRALIANS SUPPORT THE MONARCHY

SYDNEY - The Australian Monarchist League (AML), Australia’s foremost organisation defending the Constitution and the Crown, has responded emphatically to this weekend’s Daily Telegraph poll indicating that 45% of Australians oppose the establishment of a republic, with only 33% in favour - (link below). This poll starkly contrasts with the misleading claim that 92% of Australians are supportive or open to a republican system.

“The overwhelming sentiment reflected in this poll challenges the Australian Republican Movement’s (ARM) narrative,” said AML National Chairman, Philip Benwell.

“Only those in a ‘fool’s paradise’ would accept such inflated figures as representative of genuine public opinion.”

The League has also slammed the ARM’s new campaign, “Wave Goodbye to Royal Reign with Monarchy: The Farewell Oz Tour,” alongside provocative materials like “Not my King” placards and “Abolish the Monarchy” banners funded by British republicans.

Using words like “the last tour of a king and queen of Australia” is not only wrong, it is terribly disrespectful to Charles, particularly given his ongoing cancer battle. Whereas most people would shy away from such a lengthy and arduous tour, Charles, King of Australia, has stopped his cancer treatment to undertake this tour of Australia and to go out and meet the Australian people.

“He should be applauded for his bravery, not insulted by these Australian and British republicans” Benwell added.

AML Royal Tour Spokesperson, Alexander Voltz said, “Desperate stunts like this do nothing to engender the public to the idea of a republic. Australians are not so easily deceived."

The AML will release further information on our plans for the Royal Visit shortly.
