The ABC responded and aired the Queen's VE Day Message several times during the day. Hopefully petitions, such as this one, have enabled us to establish a better relationship with the ABC for future occasions. You can see the Queen's Message, together with others, on this website here.

Calling upon the ABC & the SBS
to broadcast the Queen’s VE Day message
Friday 8 May 2019 at 9 pm (6 am AEST on 9/5/20)

The Queen is to deliver another rare broadcast on this Friday 8 May to commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day. However, it appears that no Australian television channel is to broadcast the speech in full. They probably assume it is only for Britain and do not take into account that several hundred thousand Australians volunteered and fought, with many killed, in Europe against the then aggressors. Accordingly, whilst the war in the East continued until August of 1945, VE Day also belongs to Australia.

VE Day, is therefore not just a British battle but one involving many nations around the Commonwealth, all fighting for the freedoms that became our cherished right under our respective constitutions.

Please therefore sign the petition below specifically calling upon the taxpayer funded media - being the ABC & SBS - to broadcast and publish the Queen’s VE Day address in full. It will be helpful if you could share the link of this very important petition on your social media.

You should note that unless you tick the box at the end of the form, your name will be published as a signatory to this petition.

We, the undersigned call upon the ABC and SBS to broadcast the Queen’s VE Day message in full.

Whether you like it or not, Australia is a Commonwealth country and the Queen of England is our Monarch. All Australians should be privileged in experiencing Her Majesty and her address to commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day. Proud Australians fought and died during WWII, my family members included. Our freedoms we enjoy today are as a result of their sacrifice. The Queens message must be broadcast and published in full by the ABC and SBS. Both media outlets exist as a result of my taxes, and the vast majority of Australians would agree that Her Majesty’s message should be broadcast and published. God save the Queen.

Thank you Philip for initiating this. As my father fought in the Pacific War at some cost to himself and his family, I believe this should be broadcast.

It is appalling that the likes of the ABC, allegedly the national broadcaster sees fit to deny anyone the right to listen to a speech of such importance…

There will be those who choose not to listen, that is their right, but there are many, many people who do want to hear….

It is NOT the job of the ABC to pick what we the people listen to or watch….

As the public broadcasters, ABC and SBS have a duty to broadcast the Queens message on the 75th Anniversary of VE Day in full. Our men, indeed many people died during WWII fighting tyranny in the name of freedom – yet our public broadcasters appear not to care! Who exactly do the ABC and SBS represent?

Australia was part of the World War II effort including in Europe, and this is an important speech of national significance for all Commonwealth nations, not least ours! It must be broadcast publicly.

It is the role of Australia’s public broadcasters to cover and to air matters of moment in our nation’s life and History. I call upon the ABC and the SBS to broadcast the momentous commemorative speech to be given by HM The Queen on this approaching VE Day 75th Anniversary. This is the responsibility of our national broadcasters in this approaching moment of inestimable consequence in the History of Australia and of all our kindred nations. Abandonment of this responsibility can only see support for Australia’s national broadcasters diminish yet further and lead also to Australians to asking in even greater numbers where the allegiances and interests of the ABC and the SBS lie.

I call upon these two broadcasters to do what is right and broadcast The Queen’s Speech on this extraordinary occasion of the 75th Anniversary of the end of the war in Europe.
