Petition Calling on Republic MP to Retract Slur on Queen

The Honourable Matt Thistlethwaite MP, Shadow Assistant Minister for Financial Services and Shadow Assistant Minister for the Republic, posted on Tuesday 14 July 2020 on his Facebook “Today’s release in full of the Palace Letters confirm that Australia needs to begin another serious discussion about an Australian as our head of state – an Australian who acts is the interests of our nation and its people, not beholden to the advice, influence and interests of a foreign power.” [meaning that the Queen acts in the interests of a ‘foreign power ‘ with the inference that she is, herself, a 'foreign power']. Mr Thistlethwaite has also publicly repeated his claims on television and elsewhere.

Please sign this petition calling on Mr Thistlethwaite to retract his unfounded and quite blatantly wrong remarks relating to the Queen of Australia as being a foreign power. The Queen and her successors will always, without question or doubt, act in the interests of Australia.

    Her Royal Majesty served many people throughout her long life. These Repubblicans have nothing else to complain about or is their agenda simply to corrupt the carrying out of good deeds?

    Thank goodness that we have the Monarchist League to advocate on behalf of our nation and our monarchy and call out those who seek to destroy a system that has served us incredibly well. Whatever the ‘come-and-go’ politicians say or do in this nation in terms of credibility, in terms of dedication to duty, in terms of stability and in terms of resilience Her Majesty the Queen is a faultless example. Long may Australia be a Monarchy and long may our ties to the UK and the US remain, for they are our true friends.

    Who the hell needs a third world mickey mouse republic in addition to coronavirus, bushfires, and all the other problems we have at the moment ! …… or at any other time, for that matter. We were established as a modern nation by brave pioneering foreigners; and are to this day largely inhabited by foreigners or recent descendants of foreigners. We are a member of the UN ; an organisation currently with a foreign head – yet no-one has a problem with that.

    Thistlethwaite should resign.

    Thistlethwaite has no guilty conscience of being a hypocrite, as evidenced by his highly biased criticism of our system of governance of one of the world’s most successful democracies.

    I find it particularly galling that our members of parliament are often first & foremost to show their disloyalty to Our Sovereign and to the Nation by their various statements and actions decrying our system of government.


    If you and your colleagues find our constitutional monarchy, with its checks and balances so untenable, then I would urge you to resign your position and if necessary, leave our sovereign, independent nation to go and live in one of so many republics around the world where the people are subject solely to the whims of their elected ruler.
