Sir Walter Campbell was Governor of Queensland from 1985 until 1992.
Prior to his appointment he was Chief Justice of Queensland, having held that position from 1982.
Sir Walter was born on the 4th March, 1921. His family arrived in Australia in 1850.
Sir Walter had a brilliant career in law, first as a barrister from 1948, then as a Queen's Counsel from 1960. In 1963 Sir Walter was appointed a member of the Senate of Queensland University and held that position until his appointment as Governor in 1985.
