Australian Monarchist League -

The Monarchist League intends to play a significant part in the forthcoming Constitutional Convention. The League proudly upholds our Constitution and endorses the integral part that the Crown plays in it.

The Australian Constitution was formulated by Australians, for Australia and ultimately voted upon and accepted by Australians and we resolutely oppose all moves to change our Constitution from a Constitutional Monarchy to a presidential republican system of Government.

This is our platform. It is simple and it is clear and it typifies the unwavering stand that the Monarchist League has since it was established in Australia in 1993 always maintained in defence of our Constitutional Monarchy.

We vigorously oppose any attempt to denigrate, to vilify or to subjugate the role of the Crown in our day to day life under the Constitution

We do not believe a republic is inevitable. The only inevitable factor in a republic is that a President would ultimately become a ‘political’ figure in a ‘political’ office with the inevitable threat to stable democratic government.

We believe that the current debate is not a debate of the people but of a vociferous minority supported by a biased media.

We believe that the symbols and traditions of our constitutional monarchy, the Australian Flag, the oaths of allegiance and such other symbols of our national identity should never be tampered with, removed or amended until and unless the People of Australia decide for change at a referendum.

We believe it is fundamentally wrong for Governments to impose upon the People processes of change and debate for change until the majority of the People of this country have some proper awareness and knowledge of our Constitution and of our system of Government.

We believe that no republican constitution, however fashioned, can give to the Australian People the near gilt edged guarantee of stable constitutional government and protection of our freedoms that the present Constitution has.
