| Whilst Mr Turnbull has discounted any involvement in a bipartisan approach to a republic on the basis that a referendum could not be won whilst The Queen is alive, Monarchists cannot depend on this assurance and must be prepared for any moves, particularly to introduce republicanism by stealth. In April of this year, the Prime Minister had indicated that there would be one or more plebiscite questions put to the people at the next general election expected in 2010. Nothing has changed to delay or revoke this programme.
